The term woodcraft (or woodlore) denotes skills and experience in matters relating to living and thriving in the woods — such as hunting, fishing, and camping — whether on a short- or long-term basis. Traditionally, woodcraft pertains to subsistence lifestyles, with implications of hunting-gathering. In more recent times, and in developed countries, it relates more to either outdoor recreationalism or survivalism.

Whether traditional or modern, woodcraft may be roughly equated to the phrase "living off the land".

Techniques

A partial list of recreational woodcraft techniques might include knowledge of wildlife behavior, identifying and utilizing wild plants and animals (especially for food), camp cooking, orienteering (including hiking skills and use of a map and compass), fire making (including procurement of firewood), selecting and preparing a campsite, lashing and knot techniques, the use of tents and wilderness first aid.

Do I need a business license or permit to sell items online through my website?
Q. I m about to create my own website through godaddy so that I can sell some of the woodcraft items I make. However, a question arose when pursuing this: Do I need to get some sort of business permit or license to sell items online through my website? Thanks!

A. Depends on your city, county & state. Most states would require you to have a sales tax license and to collect and remit sales taxes from your instate customers (some states tax all sales). So, without knowing where you are located, we can't help you. I would go to your business service department at your state's official government website.

Could I use this wood to make a longboard skateboard (link)?
Q. If so, what size am I supposed to use?
Asked by Jack Lapidus - Mon Jul 6 21:22:04 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Size of the wood is too small. 30" is shorter than most short boards. You could make a nice mini cruiser. Birch is used in making longboards, but is more flexible and not as strong as maple. Don;t use oak. It's brittle.

Where can I find cheap cigar box hinges?
Q. I am looking for the cheap thin hinges you find on cigar boxes. If you can find it on woodcraft.com, it is not what I am looking for. They are not screwed in, nor are the inserted through a kerf saw blade. They are barbed, and look to be pressed or hammered into the actual wood of the box. I cannot find these anywhere, only jewelry box hinges that must be screwed in. Example: Thanks! Thanks, but I have seen the kerf ones and I do not want those.

A. These are a little different from yours, but they are the kerf cut type. Hope this helps.
