Photography (pronounced /fәˈtɒɡrәfi/) is the process, activity and art of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a sensitive medium, such as a photographic film, or an electronic sensor. Light patterns reflected or emitted from objects activate a sensitive chemical or electronic sensor during a timed exposure, usually through a photographic lens in a device known as a camera that also stores the resulting information chemically or electronically. Photography has many uses for business, science, art and pleasure. Lens and mounting of a large-format camera. A historic camera: the Contax S of 1949 — the first pentaprism SLR. From Google News Search: "Photography" What kind of photography equipment do I need to start out with? Q. I would like to start a small photography business...nothing major as I am an amateur photographer and am not sure of myself/skills yet. I do think that I take pretty decent photos and have a great passion for photography but don't really know how to begin. What kind of fairly inexpensive camera is a good start? I do have a Sony Digital Camera and a Canon SLR 35mm. Also, what other kind of equipment is imperative when beginning-just to look like you know what your doing? Any help would be greatly appreciated! One more thing before I forget, what is needed to take great photos of food/wine? Is there a special kind of setup that I would need? Asked by yorkiepoo - Tue Apr 24 13:14:07 2007 - - 3 Answers - 2 Comments A. You may not like this answer but it is intended to be honest and helpful. Don't start any business, not even a small one, until you are sure of what you are doing. Apart from the risk to your reputation through failing to deliver you may be liable to losses. Don't buy more kit until you are a little closer to knowing what you want to photograph - make the most of what you have by learning to use it to it's best. Equipment can cost a lot, especially when more specialised - much food photography for example needs larger format than 35mm or high end digital to get published and lighting is essential and expensive. Look at as many good quality published or exhibited pictures of your subject as you can. Visit exhibitions showing your subject… [cont.] Answered by Gerry T - Tue Apr 24 17:24:54 2007 How do I start photography as only a hobby? Q. Asked by Gattu9005 - Sun Jul 5 08:56:59 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Start out by getting a decent point & shoot and just start taking pictures of different things. Play with the settings, try different views, look for interesting things to photograph. There are several good beginner books out there to help give you pointers and ideas. Go to the library and the bookstore and flip through some until you find one you want to read. Once you get into the hobby a bit and think you will stick to it, then consider getting a more expensive camera. As far as classes, check out any local colleges in your area since many have community development classes that are free or cheap for people to take. Sometimes your local arts center will provide free or low-cost classes. You can also call some local camera stores in your… [cont.] Answered by PrachiDesai36 - Tue Jul 7 04:00:10 2009 How do I start a photography business?
