I use them for winter clothing and blankets...It works just like it says it does...you get really good deals on them on their main website: https://www.spacebag.com/ spacebag/901715/ But you can get them at Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart,

A. I prefer in the summer months especially, sheets, and a coverlet! It is so comfortable, and when it needs washed, it is easy to care for because it doesn't take up the whole washer and dryer! In the cooler months, I just add a blanket under the coverlet, and I'm warm and cozy! Another tip, if you have a pet that insists on sleeping in your bed, you don't mind washing the coverlets all the time like the big bulky covers, and they dry faster!

What fillings are best for quilts and comforters?
Q. Trying to decide between polyester fillings or cotton fillings. To keep warm, which is better?
Asked by jan - Thu Apr 12 08:32:49 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Personally, I prefer to use 100% cotton Warm & Natural (or Warm & White, or Warm & Black, depending on the colors in my quilt). I like a very flat quilt. Polyester can be very fluffy (high loft), and it is also very warm because as a synthetic fiber it does not breathe. You have other alternatives, however. You can get blends of cotton and polyester - one very popular blend is Hobbs 80/20 (80% cotton, 20% polyester). You can also try other natural fibers. Both wool and silk batting are available. While silk might be too expensive, wool is a great choice if you're looking for a very warm batting. Wool is also surprisingly easy to hand quilt and is machine washable.

What is the standard size of a queen comforter/quilt?
Q. I am making a jean quilt and am wondering what size I need to make it for a queen bed.
Asked by THATgirl - Wed Sep 19 02:07:17 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Standard size of a queen size quilt in the batting industry is 90" x 108". Anything close but not over is considered a queen size. King is 120" x 120". Those are standard size of pre-cut batting NOT what retailers are calling queen or king. I own a quilt shop & that's my reference.

Can I age a cotton polyester quilt/comforter?
Q. I have a pale green cotton polyester quilt/comforter that I'd like to age a little to fit in with the rest of our home. Obviously I don't want to ruin it! Would something gentle such as weak tea work?
Asked by Sofabelly - Sat May 23 19:02:13 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Tea dying (actually, most dyes) only works with natural fabrics. If your quilt is more than 50% polyester, the fabric won't take the dye. Also, you might not want to soak the entire quilt - batting and all - in a dye solution. You could try spraying or brushing on a diluted dye in a tan color. Check the quilt for stains because existing oily spots will repel any dye you use, so you won't get even coverage. There are a few dyes available for polyester, but the colors are limited. Check out - they have a lot of info on dying. I didn't see anything that would be the appropriate color for what you need, but you might have better luck. Also check the Rit Dye website - their tan dye is an alternative to tea dye, for people who don't like to… [cont.]

What's the difference between quilt, bedspread, blanket, comforter, and throw?
Q. I have a new bed and planning to get the necessary stuff for it. Right now I have sheets, pillows, and a blanket. I plan to get the rest from IKEA. What are the differences IKEA quilts, bedspread, blanket, comforter, and throw? And for quilts, how do you know what warmth level is good for you? (level 1-5)

A. Quilts are bed covers that have elaborate stitching (usually 10 stiches per inch) in a decorative pattern all over the surface. The have a layer of fabric, then batting, then fabric. They are any size but cover the mattress Comforter are like quilts without the elaborate stiching. They are a layer of fabric, batting, fabric with minimal stiching. They are usually lighter than a quilt and less expensive. They are larger than the matress but do not touch the floor Blankets are a single layer of fabric - usually woven. They are a little larger than the size of the matress Bedspreads are the top cover over your sheet & blanket - they cover the bed and go down to the floor - they can be made of any fabric. Throws are small blankets,… [cont.]

What do you call this kind of comforter holder?
Q. It's some sort of mechanism, that is fastened to the bed or mattress, but supposedly you don't see it. It allows you to turn down your comforter or quilt to the end of the bed, but holds it in place so it doesn't fall off the end. I've heard of them, but don't know what to call it to even search for one.

A. I bought a brother 3000i and in less than a year, have outgrown what it can do. Save your money and get one with as much as you can afford. I lucked out and got an older model babylock elure for 500. It is used, but a work horse of a machine. Find a reputable machine dealer who takes trade ins and look for a deal. The brother is a good starter machine. I just needed more out of a machine than it could give. I paper piece and the thread cutter is a big plus and saves on thread. I sew more than 20 hours a week. The rest of the time I spend cutting and then dreaming about the next quilt. I am trying to start a small business and just needed more horse power so to speak. I don't know if Walmart still carries the machine I mentioned. [cont.]

A. I love to sew and wish I could show you but you can probably find someone, as other person answered, in a fabric store or craft shop. They sometimes give short classes too, because they want to sell fabric, so it's helpful to everyone. Starting with something square and simple is certainly the best, such as a table cloth, then move to pillow case, then quilts would be a great plan. There are many ways to go about making quilts, and this would give you practice with the seams and the sewing machine, too. With the sewing machine, there are some simple steps that can make a lot of difference, and you will hopefully have the instruction book that came with the machine. That would be a life-saver! Some of these things are: filling the… [cont.]

Which is thicker, a quilt or comforter?
Q. I am in the process of purchasing a comforter or quilt. Not sure which is thicker. Im usually always cold (year round) and looking for something thick for my bed. Can you explain in detail what a coverlet and a duvet is? Would I benefit by buying on?
Asked by Blue L - Tue Oct 13 10:09:07 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Comforters are thicker than quilts. They are made with a variety of fill weights, the higher the fill weight the warmer. The fills can be goose down/feathers or a synthetic. Synthetic can be better for people with allergies. Make sure you check washing instructions before you buy. Many are not machine washable. A duvet is a cover for a comforter that you can remove to wash and/or to update the look of your room. A coverlet is a thinner version of a comforter. Perhaps layering would be the best idea for your bed. Pick a nice quilt or comforter you like and have another blanket in a coordinating shade (a solid if you are putting a pattern on as the main cover) and fold it on the end of the bed.

Q. bedspreads, quilts, comforter??? twin on both top & bottom bunks
Asked by Cher - Wed Dec 26 18:40:20 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. usually bunk beds set on "bungee boards"( I may have misspelled it) instead of box springs or foundations. They are not as thick as a box spring so making the bed will be easier with two flat sheet vs flat and fitted. Also you can use your preference for the top..twin coverlett (or quilt)will be easier to tuck in between the rails.
