Is Universal Studios Orlando busy during the end of Dec and beginning of Jan?
Q. My family is planning on going to Universal Studios, Florida from Dec 28, 2010 until Jan 3, 2011. Would this be a bad time to go or will the crowds be thinning out? How about Jan 1 to Jan 7? Would this be preferable to the end of Dec?

A. between dec 21st and january 1st is the absolute busiest time of the entire year for orlando area atttractions. so dec 28th to jan 3rd really is not a good time to go if you are wanting to avoid major major crowds. in fact during that time the theme parks tend to fill to capacity by noon and they don't let anyone else in until enough people leave. i would suggest getting there very early in the morning and not plan on leaving at all during the day until you are completely done. january 1st to january 7th would be better but still you are going to find huge crowds until about the 3rd. and if you plan on going during either of those times you need to book your vacation NOW. you may think its pretty early but its actually gettting quite late… [cont.]

Universal Studios Hollywood Front of Line pass on Saturday in April?
Q. Four of use are going to Universal Studios in Hollywood on Saturday, April 9th. All of us are not interested in the rides, Jurassic, Mummy or Simpsons, since we are all scared. But we would love to see all the shows and studio tour, and leave the studios by 2 or 3pm. Our time in LA is really limited. We are planning to be there by 9am. Should we buy front of line pass?

A. Just a quick note: Do you mean Saturday (Apr. 4) or Thursday (Apr. 9)? As someone who has worked there for the past 4 years, I'd recommend getting the FOL pass, especially since you are leaving the park so early. Doing the math for all the shows plus the Studio Tour, it will take about 3 hours to finish everything. This does not include walking in the park, waiting for those shows, or eating lunch. So with only about 5 hours to yourselves, you'd be really rushing it through the park. April 4 is the start of our peak season and, as it has been for the past few years, the Spring Break peak season feels a lot like the Summer peak season so wait times would be upwards of 15 minutes. Is universal studios or disney world better?
Q. My family is planning a trip to ..well, somewhere... this sept. and it will be 3 adults and 1 child age seven . They can't decide whether to go to Disney world, universal studios, or atlantis in bahamas. Also, they would like to do something in Orlando (like universal or disney) and then just take a plane for the day to atlantis and fly back to orlando that night. is that possible or feasible? which is the best place to go overall.

A. I think it depends on how long you want to stay. You can do do both Disney and Universal Studios if you are going to be there for more than a day. There are a total of 4 theme parks at Disney (aside from the water parks) and 2 at universal. So, that could be 6 (exhausting) days right there. As for what's best if they choose just one, that depends on their preferences. It sounds like they are going to be there for more than one day, so it might be best for your group to do a combination of both parks. Some people really love Disney, some people really love Universal. As the previous responders said, most children prefer Disney and most adults prefer Universal, but maybe the people in your group are different? Most people like them both… [cont.]
