Wood is a hard, fibrous tissue found in many plants. It has been used for centuries for both fuel and as a construction material for several types of living areas such as houses. It is an organic material, a natural composite of cellulose fibers (which are strong in tension) embedded in a matrix of lignin which resists compression. In the strict sense wood is produced as secondary xylem in the stems of trees (and other woody plants). In a living tree it transfers water and nutrients to the leaves and other growing tissues, and has a support function, enabling woody plants to reach large sizes or to stand up for themselves. Wood may also refer to other plant materials with comparable properties, and to material engineered from wood, or wood chips or fiber.

People have used wood for millennia for many purposes, primarily as a fuel or as a construction material for making houses, tools, weapons, furniture, packaging, artworks, and paper. Wood can be dated by carbon dating and in some species by dendrochronology to make inferences about when a wooden object was created. The year-to-year variation in tree-ring widths and isotopic abundances gives clues to the prevailing climate at that time.

Why does wood grains keep falling off from the bottom of my wooden door? What's going on?
Q. i've been ignoring the wood grain fallings ( looks like brown sand) from my wooden door by simply wiping it off. till recently, i discovered that one portion of my door is hollow. Could I be because of termite attack or the wood is aging? i have got to put a stop to it. Can anyone explain to me what's going on?

Whats a way to treat wood to preserve it and to kill possible bugs?
Q. I'm looking to treat a piece of wood I found in the woods. Its the bark of a bug eaten tree and I want to kill the bugs and treat the wood to preserve it. Whats the best way to do this?

A. If you really want to presserve the wood... Try to treat it with "SOLIGNUM" as far away from your home. The risk of bringing in the bugs from the bark may spread to your home. After that you can varnish the wood this will double protect and kills the bug that is left... but still if its not very important just leave it be or burn it to prevent spread.

I want to break down wood and shrubbery, but no wood chipper?
Q. I want to chop all the excess wood and sticks I have in my backyard and use it for compost, but I have no wood chipper. Is there a way I can have someone do this for me for cheap?

A. perhaps you could ask a neighbor, friend or relative if they have one you could borrow or rent for a small fee or a favor in return perhaps offer to shred some of their branches while your doing yours or something. the other alternative is to hire one from a rental company but that can get pricey. failing that you could chop branches into small pieces which i had to do before i was given a shredder. hope this helps !!
