Universal Studios (sometimes called Universal City Studios or Universal for short), a subsidiary of NBC Universal, is one of the six major American movie studios. Its main motion picture production/distribution arm is called Universal Pictures. Founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle, It is one of the oldest American Movie studios still in continuous production. In 2004, the controlling stake in the company was sold by its owners at the time Vivendi Universal to General Electric, parent of NBC. The resulting media super-conglomerate was renamed NBC Universal, while Universal Studios Inc. remained the name of the production subsidiary. In addition to owning a sizable film library spanning the earliest decades of cinema to more contemporary works, it also owns a lengthy collection of TV shows through its Subsidiary NBC Universal Television Distribution. It also acquired rights to several prominent film-makers works originally released by other studios through its subsidiaries over the years. The company also own a theme park license for Scooby-Doo and Shaggy, who appear at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida. Its production studios are located at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal City, California. Distribution and other corporate offices are based in New York City. Universal Studios is NOT open for New Years Eve. That is that they close at 9PM so there is no celebration in the park. Disneyland is open for New Years Eve and closes at 2AM(1AM for California Adventure). Now, in past years the NYE for Universal the celebration has been at Citywalk(the shopping area next door to Universal Studios). Unless they have changed it in the last few years I would NOT recommend you do this. The one time we did go several years ago it was so crowded, we were unable to move(I mean even an arm) for about an hour because they were so packed in. If you decide to celebrate it at Disneyland, they have unique events and several bands and "party" locations throughout the parks. Asked by Mari - Sat Jun 6 14:21:05 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. i stay on resort in universal orlando so my room key is an express pass. if you are going on the weekends, definately worth it. if you are going during the week when kids are still in school and it is not holiday weeks, then you really dont need it. i however, love having it. it doesnt move you right to the front of the line, but the most you will ever wait is about 10 minutes. it is especially great for the coasters as the lines to those can be long anyway. when you buy an express pass you can only use it once per attraction. Craigslist is not a good place to buy tickets. if you check this messsage board, there are a couple of complaints about people buying used or fake tickets. check online for prices and either buy direct from them or at the gate.
