Volume is how much three-dimensional space a substance (solid, liquid, gas, or plasma) or shape occupies or contains, often quantified numerically using the SI derived unit, the cubic metre. The volume of a container is generally understood to be the capacity of the container, i. e. the amount of fluid (gas or liquid) that the container could hold, rather than the amount of space the container itself displaces. Three dimensional mathematical shapes are also assigned volumes. Volumes of some simple shapes, such as regular, straight-edged, and circular shapes can be easily calculated using arithmetic formulas. The volumes of more complicated shapes can be calculated by integral calculus if a formula exists for the shape's boundary. One-dimensional figures (such as lines) and two-dimensional shapes (such as squares) are assigned zero volume in the three-dimensional space. The volume of a solid (whether regularly or irregularly shaped) can be determined by fluid displacement. Displacement of liquid can also be used to determine the volume of a gas. The combined volume of two substances is usually greater than the volume of one of the substances. However, sometimes one substance dissolves in the other and the combined volume is not additive. In differential geometry, volume is expressed by means of the volume form, and is an important global Riemannian invariant. In thermodynamics, volume is a fundamental parameter, and is a conjugate variable to pressure. From Wikipedia under the

Q. im looking to find the volumes of airplanes, does anyone know where i can find information like that? the volume, as in meters cubed, like how much stuff could fit it one Asked by L to the R to the V - Tue May 22 20:26:49 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. The only way I know is to fill it with water, then pour it out and measure it. Which, if any, of the measurable respiratory volumes would likely be exaggerated in a person who smoked a lot? Asked by Mike S - Sat Apr 19 14:35:43 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. FRC (functional residual capacity) and RV (residual volume). They are both increased in people with COPD because of air trapping. The bronchials in the lungs become flimsy after years of smoking and close much easier trapping air in the lungs. Q. I am having huge issues with this type of geometry. I don't know any good ways to remember how to find any of the surface areas, lateral areas, and volumes of objects. Please help me with a simple formula for each. Thank in advanced. Also im pretty young so don't use huge words please. Asked by novadrake1111 - Tue Mar 9 17:27:02 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Say you have a sheet of paper. this paper is 6 inches wide and 10 inches tall. So, you just multiply the sides of them to get your area. 6in x 10in= 60in^2 (^2 means squared don't freak out) so you have 60 lets say you put this paper on 12inches of paper. This becomes your volume cause now it is thick so just multiply your 60 by 12 60 x 12 = 720in^3 volume is always to the 3rd power So your master formulas are width x length = area Width x length x depth = Volume Lateral area is just the are of a surface like on a box Good luck Answered by Daniel - Tue Mar 9 17:39:38 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "volumes" Lower Volumes Hurt Energy Transfer
